Sri Lanka Navy assisted the annual feast of the St Anthony's Church at Palativu on Sunday (19th March 2017), said the navy media.
Accordingly, around 15,000 Catholic devotees from Gurunagar, Navanthurai, Passaiyoor, Valaippadu, Iranaimathanagar, Pallikuda, Mandativu, Jaffna, Negombo, Delft and Mannar attended the annual feast by using 224 traditional boats and 797 dinghies.
The Festive High Mass was conducted by the Bishop of Jaffna, His Lordship Rt. Revd. Dr. Justin Bernard Gnanapragasam, and Parish Priest of Valaippadu, Revd. Fr. S. Vimalasekaran.
Sri Lanka Navy fully assisted the festival by providing sea transportation, infrastructure, camping, meals, medical facilities with sea ambulance, sanitary and drinking water to the devotees and officials who attended the annual feast. Special sea units were also had deployed for the lifesaving and security purposes.
Large number reverend Fathers, Sisters, navy officers and other ranks and devotees were also present at the annual feast.
