The Local Government Election is most likely to be held before 9th December or in the first week of January, said Lands and Parliamentary Reforms Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka.
He made these comments yesterday (30th Aug.) responding to a journalist at the cabinet press briefing held at the Department of Government Information.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya on 29th August said that he expects to sign the Local Authorities (Amendment) Bill on Thursday, 31st August.
Minister said that the elections could be held before the GCE (O/L) examination or immediately after the examination is over in January next year.
