The Sri Lankan Army contingent for the 'Mithra Shakthi- 2017' Joint Military Exercise, left for India on 11th October.
According to Army media, the local contingent for the Exercise includes 10 officers and 110 other rank personnel of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR).
The Sri Lanka Army - Indian Army-organized 'Mithra Shakthi' Exercise is an annual training program, designed to further promote interoperability, conduct of joint tactical operations, military cooperation, sharing of experiences and understanding of transnational military issues. It also aims at developing joint strategies by sharing the expertise of conducting operations, especially in the counter-insurgency and counter terrorism (CI and CT) environment.
It will also include weapon training, basic military tactics and complex battle strategies.
So far the Exercise has been conducted twice each in India and Sri Lanka, while this will be the fifth in the series of Exercises, since its inception in 2012. Last year (2016) the Exercise was conducted at the Regimental Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) in Ambepussa.
The Sri Lankan Army personnel taking part in the Exercise will meet their host counterparts at the Aundh Military Camp in Pune from 12th to 27th of this month. Senior military observers of both countries are scheduled to attend the Final Tactical Exercise at Aundh on 25th October.
