The present government had taken steps to create a new economic development system for Sri Lanka by improving infrastructure facilities including new airports and ports, said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at Hambantota on Saturday (4th Nov.).
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Sri Lanka – China Logistics and Industrial Zone Office at Maagam Ruhunupura International Conference Hall, the Prime Minister added that the government would consider constructing a third major airport in the East in addition to the Katunayaka and Mattala airports.
“Our objective is to make Sri Lanka an economic hub in the Indian Ocean. We possess three sea ports and two international airports at present. We are looking into the possibility of constructing one in the East as wee”, Mr. Wickremesinghe said.
Ministers Sajith Premadasa, Sagala Ratnayake, Mahinda Amaraweera, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Vijith Vijayamuni Soyza, State Minister Dilip Wedaarachchi, and Chinese Ambassador Yi Xianliang also participated on this occasion.
